Delmer W. Barefoot

Mr. Delmer W. Barefoot of Raeford passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 69. Delmer was born in Cumberland County on January 9, 1948 to the late Gaston Vernon Barefoot and Gladys Lockamy Barefoot. He was preceded in death by his brother, Elton Vernon Barefoot. After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, Delmer was employed for 34 years with Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. After retiring from the phone company he owned and operated Barefoot Alarm and Electric and EZ Ryder Kreative Mobile Lifestyles, Inc. Mr. Barefoot, a member of Philippi Presbyterian Church for many years, is the "Ask Delmer" of our congregation. He had been ordained as an Elder. He didnt have to be serving the Session to realize he was an outstanding leader of our community. He was our "Johnny on the spot", whatever the task, Delmer was there to handle the situation, whether it be a light bulb, plumbing problem, telephones, buildings alarm system or the outside beautification of our little church. Many times he has been called early on Sunday morning when a light went out in the sanctuary, no matter the maintenance problem he would see that morning worship goes off without a glitch. He was always an example of what an Elder should be forever dedicated to Christ. He leaves behind his wife and soul-mate of 20 years, Juanita Barefoot of Raeford; his daughters, Toby Foster and her husband, Jeffery of Hope Mills, Heather Gunther and her husband, Jd of Fayetteville; his step-sons, Arthur Wilkie IV and his wife, Gelyne of Raeford, Kurt Wilkie and his wife, Suzi of Atlanta, GA, Karl Wilkie and his wife, Carolyn of Hagerstown, MD; his sister, Vera Pate and her husband, Alex of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Mary, Elizabeth, Kara, Jake, Ava, Megan, and Jamie; one great-grandson, Jordan. The family will receive friends between the hours of 7pm and 9pm on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford. Funeral services will be held 2pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Philippi Presbyterian Church with Reverend Mike Baker, Reverend Chip Grammer, and Elder Herman Autry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Philippi Presbyterian Church Music Ministry, 2800 Philippi Church Road, Raeford, NC 28376 and/or Childrens Hope Alliance, PO Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010.
