Fred K. Dew, Sr., 79, was called to his heavenly home on January 31, 2018 surrounded by the comfort and love of his family.
Mr. Dew is preceded in death by his father, Harry C. Dew, Sr., brothers: Harry C. Dew, Jr. Robert C. Dew, Charles Pete Dew, and his wife of 56 years, Ellen G. Dew.
He is survived by his mother Mrs. Betty Graham Dew, his son Fred K. Dew, Jr., his daughter Amanda G. Dew, his brothers: Harold Dew, Kenneth Dew, Edward (Eddie) Dew, his sisters: Doris Dew, Margaret Dew Witten, and a large family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Fred grew up in Robeson County and lived in Cumberland County for over 50 years. He attended and graduated from Hoke County High School where he enjoyed playing football and achieved All Conference.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he worked many classified assignments defending our country. Fred worked hard to receive his Associate degrees in Heating/Air, Plumbing, and Electric. He then went on to work for Riddle, Floyd, and Godwin using his knowledge to oversee numerous projects.
Fred continued gaining experience and sharing his wealth of knowledge while employed by J. P. Riddle and then Dew heating company. In the late 1960’s he started his own heating and air conditioning company using the name Central Heating and Air Conditioning Company. He continued to build and grow his company expanding to include plumbing and electrical work. His desire to learn never faded and he went on to study for and receive his Unlimited Builders License. Fred decided to incorporate his company and the name was changed to CHACCO, Inc. where he continued to work until retiring and handing over the day to day operations to his children.
Fred enjoyed meeting and spending time with all kinds of people. He was dedicated to his community and strived to make it better each day. He was a proud member of The Masons, The Eastern Star, and Amaranth. He served as a chairman on the Cumberland County District 8 School Board for several years and was a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher in his local church. Fred was an excellent leader and enjoyed mentoring numerous employees over the years.
Fred was an extraordinary husband, father, brother, and friend often going the extra mile for those he loved. He was family oriented, always making the time to attend his children’s activities as they were growing up, making sure to attend or host family celebrations, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
Fred was an intelligent yet humble man with an abundance of humor and wit that drew people towards him. He lived his life with a zest that was rare and special. He gave of himself and made his corner of the world a better place to live.
His family and friends will hold all the memories created close to our hearts and will forever miss his presence in our daily lives.
The life of Mr. Fred K. Dew, Sr. will be honored and celebrated with visitation on Monday, February 5th from 6pm to 8pm at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave., Raeford, NC and the funeral will be Tuesday, February 6th at 2:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3219 Lindsay Rd., Raeford, NC with a grave side service to immediately follow.
