Mrs. Gladys "Polly" Johnson Clark of Raeford passed away on November 5, 2017 in Open Arms Retirement Home at the age of 89. Polly was born in Hoke County on October 28, 1928 to the late William Baker and Nonie Lancaster Baker Chappell. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Johnson and Sim Clark, Jr.; two brothers, Lester Baker and Leonard Baker and her sister, Elizabeth Baker. Polly was the last surviving charter member of the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, originally named Peoples Tabernacle, where she sang in the church choir. Polly played an active role in the church by helping with Vacation Bible School, hosted youth rally participants in her home, and the prayer circle. After raising her family, she returned back to school and received her degree in nursing. After retiring she dedicated her life to caring for her mother and her brothers. She leaves behind her daughter, Barbara Johnson Johnson of Raeford; her son, Jamie Johnson and his wife, Susan of Hickory; her sister, Mary Southern of Raeford; four grandchildren, Grey Johnson and his wife, Debbie, Baker Johnson and his wife, NoraAnn, Daniel Johnson and his wife, Stacie, Matthew Parker; seven great grandchildren, Cori, Sarah, Cameron, Sammy, Emma Lynn, Aiden, and Jaxon; her niece, Yvonne Harrell and her husband, Robert of Southern Pines; her nephew, Lester "Bobie" Southern of Raeford; great nieces, Mandy Luck and her husband, Jonathan of Pinehurst, Lesley Craven and her husband, Josh of Pinehurst; her great-great niece and nephew, Cullen and Landry. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm following the visitation. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to: Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612.
