Russell Charles Smith

Mr. Russell Charles Smith of Raeford died Saturday, July 14, 2012 in his home at the age of 54. Mr. Smith was born in Wilson County, North Carolina on April 11, 1958 to Mr. Coy Dees Smith and Mrs. Lois Holton Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1980 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was employed with the Hoke County School System as a Social Studies teacher and a coach. Mr. Smith graduated from Campbell University Law School in 1996 and later became the Assistant Dean for Student Services at the law school. In 2010, he was elected as Hoke County Clerk of Superior Court. Mr Smith served on various committees and boards including the Hoke County Board of Education and The North Carolina School Board Association. He was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Raeford Presbyterian Church Survivors are wife, Rebecca Smith of Raeford, NC; son, Daniel Smith of Asheville, NC; daughter, Emily Smith of Coats, NC; sister, Vicky Hunt of Cleveland, GA. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Raeford Presbyterian Church-John Ropp Fellowship Hall. Memorial Service will be 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Raeford Presbyterian Church, 128 West Edinborough Avenue, Raeford, NC 28376 with the Reverend Jim Braden and Dr. Barry Shoffner officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Raeford Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 128 West Edinborough Ave, Raeford, NC 28376 or Liberty Hospice, 336 S. Main Street, Raeford, NC 28376.
