Barbara McPhatter-Cooke Obituary

Barbara Glen McPhatter-Cooke was born November 21, 1953 in Raeford, NC to the late Angus McPhatter and Nina Alston. She departed this life May 11, 2010. Her formal education was received at Hoke High School. She continued her studies at North Carolina A&T, receiving a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor of Science - Nursing Degree. Her postgraduate degree was received at Ball State University, Muncie, IN, receiving a Master of Arts Degree. In 1975 she received her license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing. She spent 33 years as a Correctional Lead Nurse in the North Carolina Department of Correctional. She joined Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1960's. A member of Whos Who among students in American Universities and Colleges and an active volunteer for The New Beginning Prison Ministries, Inc. She was married to Chaplain George N. Cooke-McPhatter for 33 years. Out of this union she leaves to cherish her precious memories, one daughter, Tracie D. McPhatter, two grandchildren: Sekora Standberry and F. Wyatt Athey, Jr. of Richmond, VA and two sons, Timothy George Cooke of Cincinnati, OH, and Spiritual son, Rev. Waddell Kemp of Raleigh, NC; four brothers: Ben McPhatter of Raeford, NC , John McPhatter of Fayetteville, NC, Toby Richardson and Hammond McPhatter of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters: Donnie Roger of Lacey, WA, Jo-Belinda Morrisey of Stedman, NC; six brothers-in-law: Dwain L. Cooke, and Wayne L. Cooke of Mount Joy, PA, Gregory Cooke, Garry Cooke, and Melvin T. Cooke, Jr of Norfolk, VA and Glenn L. Cooke of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters-in-law: Melba T. Cooke of Anchorage, AK, Alma L. Cooke-Felton of Virginia Beach, VA and Sara T. Campbell of Brooklyn, NY. A host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Graveside Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 17, 2010 at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Officiating Chaplain John D. Jordan and Rev. Dr. H. E. Edwards. Care of the family is entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford, NC.
