Brenda Townsend Helvey

Mrs. Brenda Townsend Helvey of Raeford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the age of 71.

Brenda was born in Tabor City on June 22, 1949, to the late O.M. Dickens and Mary Miller West. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Norman Elwood Townsend Jr. her granddaughter, Catherine Michaela Whitaker, brother Charles Glenn Dickens, her stepfather Charlie Vance Wiggins and her step brothers Leonard Vance Wiggins, Raymond Gene Wiggins and Bobby Leroy Wiggins. She was a member of Living Faith Ministries in Raeford. Brenda was loved by many in the community and was the mama to others.

She is survived by her husband Paul A. Helvey of Raeford, NC; two daughters Vanissa Kaye Townsend and her husband Raymond Lee Kelly of Woodbridge, VA and Tonya Townsend Whitaker of Vass, NC; a son Jonathon Contois and his wife Amanda Fountaine of Fayetteville, NC; five grandchildren, Adrian Michael Bernard, Justin Townsend Kelly, Nathan Shea Contois, Sophia Julianne Whitaker and Chase Alexander Contois, two god sons Doug Finch and Steven Finch, three brothers James Ray Dickens of Raeford, NC, Jimmy Lee Dickens of Mauriceville, TX. John Mark Dickens of Laurinburg, NC; two sisters Janice Dickens Kelly of Wadesboro, NC and Carolyn Dickens Stephens of Sanford, NC.

Visitation will be held 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, April 30, 2021 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue. Raeford, NC

Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 1, 2021 at, Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tex Deaton officiating.
