Catherine Lutz Obituary

Mrs. Catherine J. Foley Lutz 79 of Raeford, NC formerly of York PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 21, 2022, at The First Health Hospice House surrounded by Family.

Cathie was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 30, 1942, to the late Frank and Frances Foley. Her cherished husband Edwin Lutz and her brother Frank Foley preceded her death. She is survived by two brothers, Bill Foley his wife Jo of Pittsburgh PA and Ralph Foley his wife Jeanne of Scottsdale AZ as well as many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and dear Friends.

Cathie’s energy was endless, she loved large, lived large with intensity. Her childhood was full of loving relatives and friends. Her high school years included being the first female mascot for North Allegheny High School. After graduation she went on to beauty school and college. While on leave from the Navy her Brothers brought home a handsome friend that turned out to be the love of her life Ed.  Ed became a Pennsylvania state trooper and they moved to York, PA. That's when her extended family really started to grow in the 70's. By then Cathie was the owner of a multi station beauty salon along with teaching cosmetology at York Vo-Tech in the evenings and volunteered at White Rose Hospice. Ed & Cathie spent their spare time on their beloved boat the Cath-Win docked on the Chesapeake Bay, where they entertained many visitors and continued to grow their extended family at their marina.

Semi-retired by the 90's she was a hostess at the Penn Gaming Complex and Ed was a security guard. Cathy loved to cook and also was part owner in a 60 seat dinner restaurant. Her other passions were her pets, flowers and garden.

In 2008 they moved south to North Carolina, where she could garden year-round and add to her extended family. She continued to hostess, volunteer for First Health Hoke Hospital and with Hospice. She also worked as a sample lady for Boar’s Head at Harris-Teeter. She just loved interacting with people. She brought experience, a strong work ethic, reliability and enthusiasm to anything she did and in her words "age is just a number and doesn't hinder my ability to get any job done".

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
