Obituary

Don Douglas McGuire was born to the union of Rev. D. Leon McGuire and Georgiana Tyndle McGuire in Hickory, NC on September 27, 1943. He was joined together in holy matrimony to his loving wife, Ann Lewis in Louisville, KY on January 8, 1974.  This union was strong, one that lasted for 48 years and remains to this day a stellar example of marriage. Out of this union they raised two loving children, Kenny and Angie.

Don served for over 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam veteran and spent many years serving his country all over the world.  He received numerous awards and medals, among which were 4 Bronze Stars. After retiring, he then began a second illustrious career at the Pentagon in Washington, DC for The Department of Defense from which he also retired with full military honors. Don was very popular and had many friends who cherished him.  He was known to travel across country visiting family and friends on a regular basis (always with his buddy and love of his life, his wife Ann by his side) He especially loved to gather up his sisters and brothers and travel to other states simply to experience the joy of being together. He had a tremendously great love for family and never ceased to express it every day. He was truly an example of what true love is.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. D.L. and Georgiana McGuire; brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly: Marvin McGuire, Leon McGuire, Calvin McGuire, Annie Parsons, Mary Joyce Samples, Patricia Riley, Gloria Jean McGuire, and Bernice Withrow.

He leaves to cherish, his loving wife, Ann McGuire of Raeford, NC; a son Kenneth (Kim) Merrill of Lexington, KY; daughters, Angela Williams of Raleigh, NC, and Dereasa Jennings of Wilmington, OH; two (2) grandchildren, Ashley Bell of Greensboro, NC and Juvon Williams of Raleigh, NC two (2) great grandchildren, Jamil Williams and Jordyn Williams of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
