Retired Staff Sgt. Joseph Dominic Morell 93 of Raeford passed away September 14, 2021, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Trina M. James and Jody M. Cheshire.
At a young age Mr. Morell joined and served in the United States Army for 20 years. He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War, Dominican Republic, and Vietnam War. He maintained jump status for 14 years with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions during which time he achieved Master Parachutist. While serving in the army he earned a Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Soldiers Medal. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association for over forty years and was very active in the Fayetteville Chapter, once serving as Vice Chairman. He was 307 Engineer Battalion Chapter Chairman while on active duty. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the 82nd Airborne Historical Society. After retiring from the army, he obtained his general contractors license and used his craft for many years in Fayetteville, Raeford and surrounding areas.
He is survived by his daughters Linda Holovack of GA., Luanne M. Dees and her husband James of Raeford, a son Michael Morell of Raeford, multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM October 23, 2021, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford, NC.
