Lillian Buie Obituary

Lillian Marie Williams Buie (Pink) age 97 went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2022.  She was born in Acme, NC to the Late Thomas Holmes Williams Sr. and Maggie Hand Williams on September 15, 1924.

After graduating Acme-Delco High School she attended East Carolina Teachers College.  Pink returned home to work at the shipyard in Wilmington, NC.  Her next move was to Raleigh where she attended business school and worked for Carolina Coach Company.  Afterwards, she worked for J.A. Jones Construction Company in Charlotte.  In 1960, she married Joseph Todd Buie and had one daughter Todd.  They settled in Red Springs, N.C. on the Buie family farm where she lived until called to her eternal home.

Granny Pink, as her grandchildren affectionately called her, had a beautiful servant’s heart.  She served her church, community, family, and friends.  Whether it be a rum cake or coconut cake to a family with a need, a visit to the nursing homes, or to offer assistance to her family and friends in a time of crisis, Granny Pink was always there to serve in her unassuming way.  She extended that service as a supporter of the Red Springs Garden Club and as an active member of the Red Springs Presbyterian Church.

Granny Pink was not one to be idle.  She loved her yard filled with azaleas.  She loved cooking, gardening, crocheting, needlepoint, and crafts.  Up until the age of 90, she was still working in the yard.  Her knowledge of plants and flowers was unmatched.

However, her heart was her grandchildren.  Even though she was 75 before she became Granny Pink, she was able to see them graduate high school and college.  She loved and adored them and was a big part of their lives.  They in turn helped care for her in the last years.

We as a family will certainly have a void in our lives but her strength, courage, faith and mostly love that she displayed throughout her life will sustain us until we see her again.

Lillian W. Buie (Pink) devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Aunt is survived by her daughter Todd Buie Weaver and her husband Andy Weaver of Red Springs NC; her grandchildren Grace Weaver and Lacy Weaver; her sister Betty Lou Jackson of Whiteville NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Joseph Todd Buie; her parents; one brother Thomas Holmes Williams Jr.; six sisters Elizabeth (Birdie) Burns; Alice Alford; Mary Margaret Williams; Rachel (Bunk) Medlin; Barbara (Bobbie) McQuay; Miriam (Mazie) Griffith.
