Mary (Hunt) Miller

Mrs. Mary Hunt Miller of Red Springs went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 14, 2022, at NC State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Fayetteville, NC at the age of 83.

Mrs. Miller was born in Robeson County on August 9, 1938, to the late Walter Hunt and Mary Revels Hunt. She was preceded in death by her husband Tracy Miller, her son-in-law Eddie Chavis, and her granddaughter Asia Locklear. Mrs. Miller was a member of Mt. Elim Baptist Church and retired from USDA and the Hoke County Tax Office where she was highly recognized.

The source of her joy came from her faith, family, and work. As a woman of God, she worked tirelessly in her church and community. She held positions in the church WMU, Sunday School teacher, choir member and countless other positions. She settled into a career with the US Department of Agriculture. This job allowed her to pursue one of her passions as she promoted diversity and women within the USDA, and she specifically recruited American Indians to the work force. She enjoyed the opportunity to travel throughout the country for her work, including Puerto Rico.

She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Miller Walker and her husband Jeffery Walker of Raeford, NC, Linda Miller McNeill of Red Springs, NC and Beebie Miller Cummings and her husband Reverend Erdey Bee Cummings of Lumberton, NC, six grandchildren, Kila, Fran, Shawn, Barrett, Timothy (Paul) and Ashley seventeen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren and several loving nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Mt. Elim Baptist Church.921 Wilson Road, Red Springs, NC

Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at Mt. Elim Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
